Damn Sans

$40.00

Damn Sans takes inspiration from the gothic-style lettering work found in Samuel Welo's 1927 book - ‘Studio Handbook Letter & Design’, as well as the classic highway font ‘Highway Gothic’ designed by Ted Forbes in the 1950’s. The result is timeless, classic, and smart.

Damn Sans is a 6-weight sans serif that’s as old as it is new. I wanted to design something useful and versatile that could complement a vast array of design work.

My goal for this was to bring a human touch to a digital and contemporary sans-serif typeface. The strokes are sharp and clean, yet they showcase the slight imperfections of the human hand, which adds a raw and genuine quality to each letter and each weight. This choice embraces the unique charm of handcrafted elements, offering a visual language that feels personal, and imperfect, yet inviting to read.

After multiple iterations that began in 2020, I've landed on a final version of Damn Sans I’m happy with. Standing at my old desk surrounded by unpacked boxes, I finally made time to finish it in my studio, in my new home, on a rainy-windy, Santa Barbara day. My new home is good. And it’s good to be home. I hope you make yourself at home with DAMN SANS! Enjoy :)
